ABOUT
THE
COMMITTEE

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) stands as the governing body for football in Europe, overseeing and regulating the sport across the continent. Established in 1954, UEFA's primary mission is to promote and develop football at all levels, from grassroots to professional leagues, while upholding the values of fair play, integrity, and inclusivity. Comprising 55 member associations, UEFA organizes prestigious club competitions such as the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League, as well as national team tournaments like the UEFA European Championship (Euro) and the UEFA Nations League.

With a steadfast commitment to advancing the sport's growth and popularity, UEFA implements initiatives to foster youth development, enhance coaching standards, and ensure the sustainability and competitiveness of European football. Moreover, UEFA plays a pivotal role in shaping the governance and administration of football, advocating for ethical conduct, transparency, and good governance practices within its member associations and affiliated organizations. Through its multifaceted activities and initiatives, UEFA strives to enrich the footballing experience for players, fans, and stakeholders alike, while promoting unity, diversity, and excellence across European football.

When Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology was first introduced, its primary objective was to minimize refereeing errors and ensure that all decisions in football were fair and unbiased. However, over time, VAR has faced mounting criticism for consistently making incorrect calls, leading to a growing backlash against its implementation. Much of the criticism revolves around the performance of VAR officials and their decision-making process.

VAR errors have not only resulted in teams losing matches but have also impacted the outcome of titles and championships. Consequently, there is widespread debate and scrutiny surrounding the use of VAR, particularly in crucial game-defining moments. The efficacy and reliability of VAR in achieving its intended goals have come under question, prompting calls for reassessment and potential reform in its application within the sport.
